This Ecommerce Templates Mod for PHP will allow you to create a google-compliant text-file sitemap that includes your product product, categories, and top categories (categories with subcategories).

This product has been tested on PHP version Ecommerce Templates versions 4.4.0 and up.

You can set the priority and frequency and it will automatically set the current date for the google lastmod= setting.

1. You will need to open the incfilenamenotshown.php file in your favorite text editor. (I.E. Notepad) and change the two variables to fit your needs. Read the notes next to each for their descriptions. Change only the value inside the Quotes. (I.E.$frequency=""hourly"" NOT $frequency=hourly) a. $frequency= b. $priority=

2.. Upload the following files to the root directory of your store: If you do not put these in the same directory, they will not be indexed or searched by Google. filenamenotshown.php incfilenamenotshown.php filenamenotshown.txt

3. CHMOD filenamenotshown.txt to 666. If you are unsure how to do this, most likely you will be able to do this in your CPanel or VDeck File Manager Section. Otherwise, let us know, and we will help!

4. Run filenamenotshown.php in your web browser by typing in your URL http://www.yourstoreURL/folder/filenamenotshown.php a. If you get: ""Check permissions or availability. Cannot write to file"" make sure that filenamenotshown.txt has the correct CHMOD 666 Permissions. b. If it says: filenamenotshown written to (filenamenotshown.txt) go on to the next step.

5. Sign into your Google Sitemaps here: GOOGLE. If you don't have an account, set one up.

6. Hit the ""add a sitemap +"" Link and enter the URL for your generated sitemap as: http://www.yourstoreURL/folder/filenamenotshown.txt

Hint: It's always a good idea to paste this address into your web browser and view the text file first to make sure your path is correct.

7. Submit your URL by pressing the SUBMIT URL button

That's it! * Run filenamenotshown.php as often as you wish to update the filenamenotshown.txt file.

Google has reported that it will not be giving as much weight to other file versions of the sitemaps:

In light of this, we have created a PHP/XML version of our Google Sitemap Generator.

This XML generator will automatically and dynamically update it's sitemap each time Google
requests it, so it is hands free once you submit it to Google!

Features:
You can set the frequency and priority for each section:
products, categories, and top categories (categories with sub-categories),
and the lastmod date will automatically update each time it is called by Google as well.

In addition, you can also add links to your other non-product pages,
and still set the frequency and priority on a case-by-case basis.

The XML produced is produced with Googles template in mind, and is
completely XML valid and compliant!

Google appears to index XML pages quicker than other types of files.
