Wikipedia Vs. Doctor?

I spent Yesterday in the hospital with my sister, She called up and asked if I could take her down because she thought she was having a problem with kidney stones again. It turns out that it was a little more complicated that that. Although she is doing fine today after last nights surgery, I can tell you it was a little scary there for awhile.

It seems that she had a type of cyst that was extremely rare. Here is where the technology part comes in: Before the on-call doctor was able to get a specialist in to check and diagnose this for sure, I was able to use the browser in my phone to look up all kinds of information on the cyst. That way, when the specialist did concur with the diagnoses, we were able to ask some intelligent questions. We were also able to get her the help she needed, as well as the peace of mind that she was being well taken care of. Without the ability to do this, things might have become overwhelming, as she was wheeled in to surgery with an hour of the diagnoses.

Thanks to the Doctors who made my sister better!

yaa its always better to have a full details before hand ‘n now net is a easy accessible medium for all of us. So TAKE EXTRAA care when it comes to health. bye. have a great time.

  2. You did the right thing because you just researched. :-)

I’m pretty sure a lot of doctors are pissed off by patients who think they know everything just because they can use Google.

  3. Its a really good thing that now days we can know everything there is to various medical problems.

  4. Medical is improvin day by day now.

  5. Sometimes it’s a double edged sword. On one side your happy to be better informed about a certain subject. But on the other side it can sometimes leave you with more questions than answers. There have been times when I looked up my symptoms and got back alarming things like syphilis or some weird disease only to find out it was just a simple allergic reaction.

  6. With the advent of internet and more specifically the search engines, we can get to know anything about everything. It gives you enough self confidence that you are right

  7. Internet is surely a great source for information and helps you in making informed decisions. Recently my mom had a heart attack, not only were we able to find information related to her condition, we were also able to track which medicines were being given to her by doctors and why. Which was especially important for us because the specialist wasn’t really a people’s person!

  8. Internet does come handy in the time like this. It not just to make sure we were able to pop up some intelligent questions to the specialist but also to help us prepare for the treatment, precaution and diet that need during the time.

  9. doctors in my town aren’t good. They recommend the some and same medicines to me .
But it’s good than in tour own isn’t like my :)

  10. On the one side, you don’t want to piss off the doctor by being a know-it-all, but we were able to ask a lot of the right questions by being a little more informed. Also, it sure helped the fear factor knowing what to expect and then hearing it confirmed by the doctors.

  11. I think wikipedia would be the winner, because it contains better details than doctor.
